Ms. Thanya K. is a dedicated academician with a strong background in genetics and reproductive biology. She holds a Master’s degree in Genetics from the University of Mysore and currently serves as an Assistant Professor at the Asia Pacific Institute of Embryology (ASPIER), Mysore.
She plays a key role in the MSc program in Clinical Embryology & Pre-implantation Genetics, where she imparts both theoretical knowledge and practical skills to students, preparing them for careers in the field of assisted reproductive technology (ART).
Teaching Responsibilities
Ms. Thanya is primarily involved in teaching Genetics, focusing on its application in embryology and reproductive science. Her classes cover fundamental and advanced concepts in human genetics as relevant to embryo development and pre-implantation diagnostics.
She also conducts practical laboratory sessions, including:
• Mitosis and Meiosis Experiments – Guiding students through cellular division studies that are essential for understanding chromosomal behaviour in gametogenesis and embryo formation.
• Andrology Lab Training –
o Comprehensive semen analysis
o Semen processing using various techniques (swim-up, density gradient, etc.)
o Semen cryopreservation (sperm freezing and thawing)
Ms. Thanya combines a structured teaching approach with hands-on demonstrations to ensure students build a strong foundation in both theory and clinical application.
Academic Contributions
In addition to teaching, she plays an active role in:
• Student mentorship and academic guidance
• Practical assessments and skill validations
• Bridging foundational genetics with clinical applications in ART
